High performance biocatalyst based on β-d-galactosidase immobilized on mesoporous silica/titania/chitosan material

A new support for the immobilization of β-d-galactosidase from Kluyveromyces lactis was developed, consisting mesoporous silica/titania with a chitosan coating. This presents high available surface area and adequate pore size optimizing efficiency enzyme and, furthermore, maintaining its activity. The obtained supported biocatalyst applied in hydrolytic activity tests o-NPG, showing 1223 Ug−1, excellent (74%), recovery (54%). Tests lactose hydrolysis continuous flow reactor showed that during 14 days operation, maintained full enzymatic In batch system, after 15 cycles, it retained approximately 90% initial catalytic attained conversion 100% (±12%). Additionally, use support, presented no deformation fragmentation, both systems, demonstrating operational stability appropriate properties applications food manufacturing.
